MeT forecasts rain, hailstorms and gusty winds across J&K between May 11 and May 13

Srinagar, May 09 (KNO): Kashmir witnessed an unusual rise in day temperatures on Saturday, with Srinagar recording 31.7 degrees Celsius, which was 7.6 degrees above normal, while several other places across the Valley also saw temperatures significantly above seasonal averages. According to the data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Qazigund recorded 31.0°C, Pahalgam 25.2°C, Kupwara 29.5°C, Kokernag 28.6°C and Gulmarg 23.0°C. Sopore emerged among the hottest places in the Valley at 32.1°C, while Beerwah in Budgam recorded 28.7°C and Aloosa in Bandipora 30.3°C. In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 35.1°C, Banihal 30.0°C, Batote 24.6°C, Bhaderwah 28.8°C and Katra 32.0°C. The MeT department said weather is expected to remain generally dry till May 10 evening, with chances of brief showers at a few places during evening and night hours on Saturday. From May 11 to May 13, the MeT predicted generally cloudy conditions with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places across Jammu and Kashmir. It said hailstorm, thunder, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at a few places during the period. The MeT department has also predicted a fall in day temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius at many places between May 11 and May 13. Farmers have been advised to continue farm operations till May 10 in view of the expected change in weather conditions—(KNO)
